Sh-Sh-Shake-Shake-Shake Shack!

Unfortunately living on the West coast we won’t get to experience any of the Shake Shack’s delicious food, but it doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate them for being a green NYC burger joint! But those burgers do look delicious, they also have hot dogs, frozen custard, fries, beer & wine, and you guessed it…. shakes!

Greenware Sustainable Food Service Cups

greenware

Greenware food service drink cups are perfect for cold drinks like an iced-mocha from your favorite coffee shop. I was recently visiting San Francisco and ran across these cups made from PLA biopolymer, a resin derived entirely from plants at the San Francisco Coffee Roasting Co.

As you can see they’re crystal clear, durable like plastic cups and not susceptible to flavor or odor transfer. I wish more fast food and coffee shops would start using these Greenware products!

Nalgene BPA-Free Flask

nalgene_flask

The Nalgene 12 ounce flask is the only BPA-free slim profile liquid container available for around $10. Since starting the greenerist site, i’ve drastically limited my usage of drinking from store bought water bottles and use re-usable BPA-free bottles like the Nalgene Everyday and Biogreen Bottles. I only wish I knew about this flask during snowboarding season because it was tough to find a slim water bottle to carry in my pocket, I also think this may come in handy for scotch or vodka as well!

The Green Box is a patented pizza box with re-usability and recycling in mind. This isn’t an ordinary pizza box, it has some innovative ideas like the lid tears off and becomes four plates to serve your pizza, then the bottom portion of the box folds in half to allow easy storage of leftover pizza in any size fridge!  Check out the video below to see this amazing eco-friendly pizza box in action, and I hope restaurants like Pizza Hut or Dominos start using the Green Box soon.

Drink Organic Shade Grown Coffee

shade_grown_coffee

If you’re a huge coffee drinker like me, you should try to support organic shade grown coffee when you get a chance. The reason shade grown coffee is better than sun grown coffee plantations is because shade grown is a more natural environment that doesn’t require cutting trees and using pesticides.

Just imagine coffee shrubs growing under the shade of tall trees which also serve as homes for birds and forest dwelling wildlife, that’s organic shade grown coffee! Picture sun grown coffee on fields where beautiful trees were chopped down to create these farms.

Unfortunately you can’t find shade grown coffee at Starbucks, but you can search for locations at Smithsonian National Zoo Website or purchase a bag of Caffe Appassionato Organic Shade Grown online.

TapGuard Water Filter

tapuard

The TapGuard by Guyot Designs is a carbon-filter that attaches to any wide mouth water bottle openings like Nalgene or Camelback so you can get clean drinking water by just refilling the bottle with tap water instead of buying plastic water bottles.

TapGuard cost around $16 and comes with two replacement carbon filters, each providing 200 liters of clean water by removing 95% chlorine. TapGuard is a great way to limit the use of plastic water bottles, helping the environment and helping you save some money.

Save Energy and Money With Eco Kettle

eco_kettle

Bet you didn’t know this, but when  you boil a kettle you’re usually using more water than you need and wasting more energy. The reason is because there’s no accurate way to measure the amount of water you need… until now! Introducing the Eco Kettle for around $40 which allows you to measure water accurately, helping you save water and use over 30% less energy.

Veggie Trader

veggietrader

Veggie Trader is a new service that helps people trade, sell or share fruits and vegetables they grow in their own garden. The idea is simple, say you have a lemon tree and rarely eat all the lemons. You would then visit the Veggie Trader website and find a neighbor near you who is willing to buy them or trade for tomatoes. Veggie Trader is just getting started and I think it’s a great start on an idea for us to buy or sell local homegrown produce!

Biogreen Biodegradable Water Bottles

biogreenbottle

I just purchased one of these Biogreen bottles from Amazon.com and so far so good, the bottle is durable and leaves no after taste. I think this is the 4th reusable, BPA free bottle i’ve acquired since starting the greenerist site. The unique thing about these BPA, DEHA and  DEHP free water bottles are that they can be recycled or can biodegrade in a landfill between 1-5 years after your using it.
