I know i’ve reserved an Aptera, but i’m tempted to reserve the Model S instead. The more I learn about the Model S, the more practical and luxurious it seems. I know it cost $15k more than the Aptera but I mean look at it! The functional exterior designs, interior seating and cargo room, plus all the tech. Anyways enjoy the video!
Overall the turnout was good, there was a mix of seriosly interested people and casual on lookers. It was fun to see co-founders Steve Fambro and Chris Anthony, and the Aptera in person of course. I tried my best to keep tweets going with photos but twitterific on my iPhone was acting up so I switched over to TwitterFon app.
I’ve done tons of research on Aptera from their website and forums, I guess the only thing that was new to me last night was that they let us vote on 4 different interior designs. I think the latest Aptera 2e had design #1 created by Jason Hill’s company “11″.
I was sad there was only one Aptera 2e available to sit in, the line was very long and before my turn came up they took the Aptera away for test drives. I guess it was my luck since the guy behind me and then in front of me each won a raffle to ride in the Aptera. Sorry I didn’t get a chance to take pics of the interior as promised, hopefully I’ll get a chance next time if they visit Orange County!
Tonight’s the exclusive Aptera event in San Diego from 6pm-10pm, and being a reservation holder we get to go! This Saturday April 4th Aptera is holding a special event at the Sand Diego Automotive Museum for reservation holders. From 10am-6pm the Aptera 2e will be available to the public, but from 6pm-10pm is exclusively for reservation holders. You’ll get to meet the Aptera team and participate in auctions to win rides in an Aptera 2e, plus help the Boys and Girls Club.
Good news is I have 2 extra tickets and will randomly select someone to win them by the end today April 1st.

Got this update from the Aptera Marketing Crew that we’ll get a chance to get up close and personal with the Aptera 2e. They’re still working out all the details, but save April 4th for our fun kick-off event in San Diego County.
The Aptera 2e fully electric vehicle is for real and will be available October of this year. Recently Edmunds.com released a video from the Aptera’s San Diego facility along with more information on this safe and fun electric car of the future. Unfortunately we at the greenerist have an Aptera 2h (plug-in hybrid) version reserved which probably won’t be out until 2011, but in the meantime we’ll keep you posted on the Aptera 2e so enjoy the video!
We at the greenerist have an Aptera-2h on reserve so we’ve been keeping up to date with Aptera’s progress. Right now the Aptera-2e has gone through some big changes which delayed production. However these changes are pretty significant and highlighted in the picture above. Check out the side roll-down windows so you can hit the drive-thru, side view mirrors cause we’re just so used to them, one rear view camera for improved 180 degree rear vision and front-wheel drive!

We’re very excited to have just reserved an Aptera here at greenerist! We’ve seen and read alot of great things about the Aptera like the amazing 200mpg PHEV, screen panels, recycled interior and amazingly designed inside and out! However there are a few things we’re curious about but couldn’t find much info on like:
- Who makes the touch-screen Navigation system and how it all works? Looks like it’s made by StreetDeck
- How much will it cost to replace a battery after it dies in 5 years or so? The battery will last about 10 years and is estimated to cost much less than the current price of $10,000.
- Can those tires run over pot holes and how much do they cost to replace? The tires cost around $70, the same tires as Honda Insight. The tire skirts may be modified for the production version to avoid pothole damage.
- Will maintenance have to be done in Carlsbad only and will it be expensive? In the beginning any little maintenance or repairs will be taken care of in Carlsbad.
- Do the cameras have night vision capabilities? Yes, and here’s a video to show off the night vision capabilities.
